Ruff & Tumble Aussies

We are dedicated to good healthy dogs, raised as family because they are.

We are a small family breeder that got our first breeding dog Ruby in 2020 from another family member. We were able to garner knowledge from my sister's breeding program and put it to good use. We breed dogs for the sake of producing good quality healthy dogs with an excellent demeanor. There aren't enough genetically clear and healthy Australian Shepherds out there these days so we strive to be one of those rare breeders who puts an emphasis on breeding genetically clear dogs. It is very common in the shepherd and collie lineage of dogs to have genetic defects such as MDR1 which is so ubiquitous and its usually very hard to avoid. Up to 50% of all Australian shepherds carry this defect. We have carefully selected Ruby and Clover for the program and neither have been detected to have this very common defect. If a dog has MDR1 it can cause life threatening reactions to common canine drugs. Most Australian shepherds are still somewhat sensitive to medication even if they test genetically clear so its important that if you do take home an Australian Shepherd pup you should always let your vet know about these types of dogs being sensitive to medication.

Our Story

San Diego County Australian Shepherd & Aussiedoodle breeder

These dogs roam across 1.3 fully fenced acres in northern San Diego County. There is so much for them to see, sniff and do. Our dogs don't even seem interested in running off. The only place they want to escape to is to go play in the yard after being in the house. Our dogs eat legume free all natural dog feed and this should help you get the most out of your dogs years. We do not dock tails even if this typically defies breed standard. We're here to do what's best for the dogs as nature intended, not follow into patterns others have done.
